The Little Mermaid

href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5CCecilleS%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml">Jeff and I went to see the Little Mermaid on Broadway last night. The Little Mermaid is my all time favorite animated movie. I saw it for the first time in 4th grade and nothing else after that compared to it. The broadway play was good but not great. Some parts were good and some were just ehhh. I didn’t really have high expectations since Abeer warned me ahead of time and I've read some of the online reviews.

Here's a list of things I liked:

1) The actors playing Ariel and Eric had amazing voices and were really good actors. Ariel was definitely a dead ringer for Kristen Bell - just imagine Kristen Bell with long, red hair. So the whole show I just kept seeing her! Eric was the guy from Sex in the City. He was one of Stanford's boyfriends - was surprised that he had a great voice!

2) I really enjoyed the actors who played Sebastian, the seagull (I forget his name) and the 2 Eels. They were all very funny and animated and had really great voices - it fit their characters perfectly.

3) The set was cool and colorful. This is one of the reasons I love watching broadway plays - just to see how the set is, how they make the most out of the space and how they change scenes. Its amazing how much thought and effort go in these things!

4) To show illusion of "swimming," all the actors used Heelies. It was actually a good idea, so they could move faster on the stage.

5) The actress playing Ursula was really good and funny.

Here's a list of things I didn’t like:

1) The actor playing Triton was just too young. I guess because they needed someone with a great physique, but his voice (it's supposed to be Zeus like) sounded fake.

2) I had imagined the scene for "Under The Sea" would be colorful, fun, energetic, wild and crazy. Granted it was colorful but there just wasn't enough energy. The actor playing Sebastian had a great voice, but he sang that song too slow and not vibrant enough.

3) Since I love the animated film, I wasn't really too keen on how the story was slightly changed. I won't post it here because it's a spoiler, but just be prepared.

Overall, it was a great night. It wasn't too cold and we found a parking spot 2 blocks down from the theatre! We didn’t have to pay Muni meter either :) Afterwards, we bought platters to take home. We've been craving Halal Meat since we only have it like once in a blue moon.

xoxo
